Steps Towards Sustainability

An album about Mother Nature, for Mother Nature.

“Human Nature” is a reflection of our own interaction with our environment. Thus, we’re taking conscious and thoughtful choices to ensure our relationship with our lovely home is a positive one. Here’s how we’re trying to help.

Sustainably Made Clothing:

All the low impact clothing sold at the Pip Lewis Store is sourced from BELLA+CANVAS, where water, energy and waste reduction are a priority. Our fabric uses seven times less water, saving 24 million gallons of water each week! B+C facilities are powered by solar energy to reduce carbon emissions and all excess fabric is recycled, so almost no waste is made!

Along with our higher standards for the quality of our fabrics, we also prioritized the safety and working conditions of those who help bring the final product to your door. B+C is a WRAP Certified Supplier and Participating Company of the Fair Labor Association. This guarantees that our fabric is not only sustainably made, but ethically made as well.

mindfully Printed and packaged Apparel:

Our apparel is printed on a made-to-order basis. Products are only made when someone orders them, so no clothes are wasted in the process! To make sure your clothes arrive safely, we use recyclable poly bag mailers made from low-density polyethylene and recyclable boxes. Although we put a lot of love into your packages, you can toss them in the recycle bin when you’re done!

why Water Based Ink?

We wanted to make sure our clothing was sustainable from the fabric to the ink! We chose to print our shirts and hoodies with water-based ink, as opposed plastisol inks. Specifically, we use Kornit Water-based and NeoPigment inks that are Oeko-Tex™ certified and safe for children.

So, what’s the difference?

Traditionally used in mass-produced fashion, plastisol ink is a plastic based ink. While super versatile and easy-to-use, the chemical base of plastisol ink has highly toxic ingredients like phthalates which have been shown to be harmful to environmental and personal health.

Water-based ink is exactly what it sounds like! Using a water base, the ink is made by a suspension of a 100% biodegradable pigment. This means no PVC or phthalates, only naturally occurring substances which can be disposed of responsibly. Choosing water-based ink was an easy one — we’d prevent potentially harmful substances from entering our water supply, making it a safer choice for us, for you and for the environment!
